Recipe costing software that prices every bake to the gram
Most bakeries price from what the shop down the road charges and hope the margin is in there somewhere. Bakery Dashboard builds each recipe out of costed ingredients, so you know what a loaf costs to make before you decide what it sells for — and you know the moment that changes.
Cost it once, and it stays costed
Enter your ingredients with their pack sizes and prices, and every recipe built from them costs itself. When a supplier raises the price of butter, every product containing butter reprices in the same moment — no spreadsheet to go back and fix.
- Ingredient cost per gram, ounce, litre or each
- Nested recipes: a preferment costs into the dough that uses it
- Yield and portion sizes, so cost per unit is cost per unit sold
- A warning on any recipe with an ingredient that has no price yet
True cost, not just ingredients
Ingredients are the part everyone counts. The True Cost panel adds the parts that quietly eat the margin — labour time on the bake and a share of your overhead — so the number you price against is the number it actually costs you.
- Labour cost by the time a bake really takes
- Overhead allocated across what you produce
- Cost, price and margin side by side on every product
Price with a target margin in mind
Set the margin you want to hold and the reprice suggestions show you which products have drifted below it and what price would bring them back. You decide what to change; the arithmetic stops being the hard part.
- Products ranked by margin, best to worst
- Menu-engineering matrix: what sells well, what earns well
- Suggested prices from your own target margin
From cost to the P&L, without re-typing anything
The same costed recipes feed production planning and the live profit-and-loss, so the cost of a bake shows up in the week it was baked. Cost, sales and profit are one chain of numbers rather than three files that disagree.
Recipe costing software: common questions
- How does recipe costing software calculate the cost of a recipe?
- It converts each ingredient price into a cost per unit of measure, multiplies by the quantity the recipe uses, and divides by the yield. Bakery Dashboard does this automatically and reprices every affected recipe whenever an ingredient price changes.
- Does it include labour and overhead?
- Yes. Alongside ingredient cost, the True Cost panel adds labour time and an allocated share of overhead, so you can compare a product’s selling price against its full cost rather than its ingredients alone.
- Can it suggest what to charge?
- Yes. Set the margin you want to hold and Bakery Dashboard flags products that have fallen below it and suggests the price that would restore it. The final price is always your call.
- Can I use it for a home baking business?
- Yes. Costing works the same whether you bake fifty loaves a week from a home kitchen or a thousand from a production bakery.
