Food manufacturing software for producers who are not an enterprise
Between a spreadsheet and a six-figure ERP there is very little built for a producer making real volume with a small team. Bakery Dashboard sits in that gap: batch costing, a schedule driven by actual orders, wholesale accounts, printable nutrition and ingredient labels, and a cost of goods figure you can defend.
Batch costing that survives a price rise
Every ingredient carries its pack size and cost, so each formulation knows what a batch costs and what a unit costs out of it. Nested recipes mean an intermediate — a base, a filling, a dough — costs into every finished product built on it. One supplier increase reprices the whole catalogue instead of triggering a week of spreadsheet work.
- Cost per batch and per finished unit, with yield accounted for
- Nested formulations, costed all the way down
- Labour and allocated overhead for a fully loaded cost
- A target margin set once, with items flagged when they fall under it
Nutrition and ingredient labels from the same recipe
The ingredient statement is generated in descending order of predominance by weight, which is the order labelling law requires, and non-edible lines such as packaging are excluded automatically. A Nutrition Facts panel with daily values is calculated from the same formulation, so the label and the cost sheet cannot disagree — they are the same recipe.
- Ingredient statements ordered by weight, packaging excluded
- Nutrition Facts panel with daily values
- Printable labels, including shelf-life dating
- Barcodes for finished goods
Production driven by real orders
Standing wholesale orders and one-off purchase orders both feed the schedule, netted against finished stock and anything already frozen, so a run is only scheduled for what is genuinely short. Ingredient requirements scale with the run, which is also how you find out on Monday that Thursday is short of flour.
Cost of goods you can hand to an accountant
COGS, overhead allocation and per-item margin come off the same records as production, so the P&L reflects the week you are in rather than a reconstruction at quarter end. A QuickBooks connection lets your figures and your accountant’s sit side by side rather than being merged.
What it is not
It is not an ERP. There is no lot traceability, no HACCP record-keeping and no supplier-audit module, so a recall obligation or a certification audit still needs a system of its own. What this replaces is the costing spreadsheet, the production whiteboard and the order book.
Food manufacturing software: common questions
- Is this an ERP for food manufacturing?
- No, and it is worth being clear about that. There is no lot traceability, no HACCP record-keeping and no supplier-audit module. It covers formulation costing, production planning, wholesale orders, labelling and cost of goods — the things a small producer usually runs on spreadsheets.
- Can it generate nutrition labels?
- Yes. A Nutrition Facts panel with daily values is calculated from the formulation you already entered for costing, and the ingredient statement is ordered by descending predominance by weight with packaging and other non-edible items excluded. Both print.
- Does it handle nested recipes and intermediates?
- Yes. A base, filling or dough is a recipe in its own right and costs into every finished product that uses it, so a change to one ingredient propagates through every level automatically.
- How does it work with wholesale customers?
- Standing orders are held per account and per item, they drive the production schedule, deliveries record what actually shipped and what came back, and margin is reported per account. Invoicing can go through a QuickBooks connection rather than being re-keyed.
